Remember Who You Are

"Remember who you are" Those four words have more meaning to me than anyone could ever imagine.  They have made me laugh.  They have made me cry.  They have made me have all the warm fuzzies on the inside.  They have been words I have lived by.  And they have been said to only the best of friends.

Sometime during freshmen year of college, one of the girls I was best friends with said these words to us.  I have no idea who started it (anyone remember?) but it was said by someone every time another walked out the room.  The person may be going to class, to work, on a date, or just across the hall to their room.  But they must always remember who you are.

I am the sentimental kind of person who holds onto words like these with the stronghold of my entire heart.  I tuck them away and feel all the feelings when I hear them said to me.  Mostly because I know they are coming from someone I know loves me, but also because they make me laugh and remember the best time of my life.

The other week I was a little down in the dumps and I texted one of "those girls" Ashlee.  Girlfriend always seems to be able to cheer me up and I miss having her live less than 2 minutes away from me.  During the conversation she said at some point those four little words "remember who you are" and within seconds I had laughed and felt at ease again.

This is what best friends were made for.  They are there in our times of need, to say just the right thing, and to warm our hearts.  I am thankful to have and to have had some amazing friends in my life over the course of the last 23 years.  I wouldn't trade a single one of them for anything.

So the next time you leave to go somewhere don't forget, "Remember Who You Are".

Be Still

God has been screaming something at me lately.  And when I say screaming, I mean He has gone out of his way numerous times to show me what He needs from me right now.  And what I need from Him right now.  It fills my heart to the brim to have a God who would seek after me this hard!

Be Still.  Be still and know that I am God.

I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have heard, seen, or read these two lines in the past couple of weeks.  The first time I clearly remember seeing it and thinking it was something I needed to embrace was when Erin wrote about her new tattoo. I loved what it stood for and it got me thinking.

Then I started seeing the phrase all over Pinterest and loving it and repining it like crazy.  And then last week in class, after one of the most stressful days of my life, one of my professors brought his wife in to teach us some relaxation techniques.  During one of the techniques she had us meditate on a saying.  She chose "Be still and know that I am God" as an example.

I started saying this phrase over and over during the relaxation technique.  I really let it melt into my soul and allowed God to come in and show me what I needed.

I had been running 100 miles an hour up to that point.  I felt dead.  I had a blank mind and could not focus on a thing.  I was empty and needed someone to turn to.  And there God was with open arms inviting me in.  Telling me to "Be Still."  To let him take over.  Allow him to do all the dirty work for me.  Give him the stress and let it all go.

The feeling of knowing I could do this and my heart would be full again is indescribable.  I needed that moment.  I needed Him to come in and take it all away from me.  I needed help and he came at exactly the right moment.

Do I still hold onto some of that stress? Honestly, yes.  I have a hard time letting it all go.  But even giving up the little I did changed so much.  The past two days have been some of the best I have had in a long time.  I have felt little stress and have been able to relax.
I owe it all to the Lord and I am so thankful He blesses me in all the ways that he does.

I Said What?!

Last Friday I shared with all of you all of the crazy things my kids have said at work.  Well today I am going to share with y'all all of the crazy things I have said at work.  Apparently Friday mornings are a bit early for me and I tend to say things without thinking...

"If you don't quiet down I am going to make you put up all of your games and sit in a circle and then....I will come up with something to make you do!"
Like I said early mornings are not my things.  For one The kids were yelling at each other in three different groups.  And I had asked them to quiet down multiple times.  So I decided to tell them if they didn't quiet down soon I was going to make them do something.  But I didn't think that far in advanced so I really had nothing to make them do...they stared at me like I was crazy.  And my coworkers laughed.

"If you keep pushing him your going to go to timeout and you won't be the captain of anything."
A brother and sister were playing on our jungle gym thing which has a little pirate like place on it.  He was standing in her way so she pushed him.  When I told her she was not allowed to do that she said she was the captain and he needed to move.  So I told her she wouldn't be the captain of anything of she kept doing that.  Pretty sure she thought I was crazy and so did my coworkers who could not stop laughing at me!

I promise you can trust your kids with me...as long as I have had some coffee and they are quiet.  But really I love my kiddos and I love that they make me say some crazy things:)

Favorite Quote

Day 4 of Blogging Everyday in May and I could not be more happy about the topic! I am OBSESSED with quotes. When I get my own place I want them all over the walls. I draw so much inspiration and happiness from them.

I took me a minute to think of my absolute favorite (may have even had to look at my Pinterest board for a little reminder).

"Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication." Leonardo de Vinci

All I ever desire in my life is simplicity. Hence the name of this blog. I strive to make things simple, I love it when things are simple, and simplicity really is happiness to me.

I think I strive for this so much because I tend to make things in life so much more difficult then they ever should be. So anytime I find simple little things my heart fills with joy:)

What quote do you live by?
