Operation Read Your Shelves: Harry Potter

34 Magnolia Street

You see that tab up there on the top of the page that says "Good Reads".  Yeah well it has been there for quite some time...as in like almost two years.  If you click on that cute little tab, then you will see that it has yet to have anything put there.  Yes, shame on me!

I have always been an avid reader.  I love books and getting wrapped up into their stories.  As a kid I could not wait to get my work done at school because when I finished I was allowed to read.  When I went off to college reading was put on hold for a bit...well reading for enjoyment was.  You would think with grad school the same would happen, but I have been finding myself always reading many books at one time these days.

After going to Harry Potter World last month, I decided that it was about time to reread the series.  Funny story about that.  I realized when I made this decision that I had NEVER read the first two books of the series.  I remember trying to read book 1 and not liking it so I gave up (this was when I was like 10. Not cool 10 year old Mosby).  Then, around the time I wanted to read them, my mom had given away the first two books to someone to read and I had seen the first two movies, so I just started with the third book.

Books 3-7 I have read at least twice.  Now I figured it was time to get book 1 and start reading.  So I know this linkup is about reading what you already have (and we did at some point in time) but I cheated a little and bought the first two books.  Forgive me please?

I never realized how much information I was missing from not reading the first book.  Or the differences in the book and movie.  I loved reading and remembering how the movie did and liking the original writing better.  I loved getting more character details, castle details, and event details.  So worth it to read.

Tomorrow I will be getting Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I cannot wait to dig into it!  Since I loved learning so much this time I know I will be loving the second book.  Anyone have anything fun to tell me that I may learn in this book?

Aww the HP series is a great one to come back to. There's so much richness there that we can always take away something new :)

I love the whole Harry Potter series. I've only read them once, but I am thinking that I too should re-read them.

I was so stoked to link up...even if I did not follow all the rules:)

I read the first three books and then stopped because they were making movies...I was THAT 11 year old. Oops!

I'm making it up for it now! I'm collecting all of the paperbacks and when I have them all, I'm going to begin reading them. So far I have three or four of them.

I'm glad you enjoyed book 1 and can't wait to hear your thoughts on book 2. At the time I read them, book three was my favorite. Of all the movies, I think that the second part of 7 is my favorite. Everything just came together and it felt really good to know that we'd finally "all" grown up!

I have to say our 10 and 11 year old selves were pretty lame...at least we are making up for it now! I love that you are collecting the books! But why wait to read them?? I cant wait for book number 2! The third book always has been my favorite and I cannot wait to get to read it again. It was the one that really drew me into the series and made me fall in love with HP! I am also a big lover of endings and seeing everything brought together. If you loved the last movie you will love the last book!

We were so lame! .good thing we didn't stay that way! ;)

That's neat that we both loved book 3!!! :)

I'm waiting to read them until I have them all so that I can read them as quickly as I want to! I'm buying them all used so it's not as easy as ordering the next one from Amazon as soon as I'm ready for it. I'll have them soon and I'm really looking forward to it!

I looooooooooooooove Harry Potter! I was late to the game and read the whole series well after the 7th was published. I haven't reread them, but I rarely reread books too much out there I haven't' read yet :) Rowling created such an amazing world! Visiting from the linkup :)

Thanks for stopping by! I love rereading books, especially the ones I fall in love with so quickly. Plus I just really wish I was part of the HP world and reading is the best way too get there!

Haha! 10 year old Megan ditched the first book after the first try too. I totally feel you.
I'm not sure why I picked it up and tried again as a kid, but I did, and now I absolutely love the whole series. I've actually read the first book the most - particularly for the whole ending sequence! It makes it hard to enjoy the movie because I'm acutely aware of all the missing details. Not so much with the other books.

I feel ya on the missing details! I kept noticing how different the first book is different from the movie. I so wish it was more inline with the book!

Visting from the linkup! I absolutely love Harry Potter! That's good that you're reading the first two books, because while the movies are great- I personally think the books are even better! ;)

Ha! I've still never read a single Harry Potter! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that has put that off for FOREVER. I don't intend to pick them up now though, I'm not really one for wizardy and magic.

Mosby Hardin said...

What rules did you not follow?! I have no idea lol!!

Mosby Hardin said...

Thanks for stopping by! I agree that the books are definitely better than the movies!

Mosby Hardin said...

OMG!! You have not read Harry Potter?? Craziness I tell you! I think you should at least give them one shot. They are about SO much more than wizardry and magic!

Mosby Hardin said...

So fun! I feel like HP just gets better and better no matter how old you are. I haven't read them since they first came out.... It's probably time I reread them soon too!!

I have re-read the series over a dozen times and I love it just as much every time! I used to read them every summer, but this past one I didn't get around to it. Once I graduate in December, I'm all over it!
